KovalSEO-SiteAudit, the reader behind Koval SEO Console.

The short version
KovalSEO-SiteAudit reads a website only when someone checks it with Koval SEO Console. It reads public pages — the HTML your server returns — and only what your robots.txt allows it. It doesn’t edit your site, sign in to its accounts or send its forms. To stop it, add the two lines shown below to your robots.txt.

How to recognise it

  • Name in robots.txt: KovalSEO-SiteAudit
  • User-agent string, pages: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 13; Pixel 7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/131.0.0.0 Mobile Safari/537.36 KovalSEO-SiteAudit/0.1 (+https://kovalseo.com/bot/) — pages, their resources and the targets of canonical links are read the way Google indexes a site, as a phone; our name is always at the end.
  • User-agent string, robots.txt and sitemaps: KovalSEO-SiteAudit/0.1 (+https://kovalseo.com/bot/)
  • When it comes: when someone checks your site, runs an audit or opens a preview with Koval SEO Console.
  • What it reads: the HTML your server returns; it doesn’t run page scripts.

Re-checks of an earlier audit may still show the older name koval-seo-console/0.1 in your log; a group for KovalSEO-SiteAudit in your robots.txt stops them too.

Anyone can copy a User-agent string, so the string alone doesn’t prove a request came from us. If you are not sure, write to us with the request from your log (below).

How it reads

Before it reads a page, it reads your robots.txt and follows the group for KovalSEO-SiteAudit — or the group for every robot, User-agent: *, when there is none. Rules written for Googlebot don’t apply to it.

If robots.txt refuses it, answers with a server error or 429, or can’t be reached, the audit doesn’t start. A missing robots.txt (404 or 410) doesn’t stop it.

Depending on the checks, it may also read your sitemaps, /llms.txt, linked files and other versions of an address, such as with and without www — each through the same rules. Requests within one check are spaced out, and a valid Crawl-delay is honoured up to 60 seconds.

Comparison requests

An audit run from an account may ask for a few pages again the way a desktop browser, a mobile browser and Googlebot for smartphones introduce themselves, to compare what your server sends each of them. These are our requests, not visits from Google: they run no scripts and don’t show how Google renders or indexes a page. They are made only where your robots.txt allows both KovalSEO-SiteAudit and the reader being compared.

How to slow it down or stop it

Stop it completely:

User-agent: KovalSEO-SiteAudit
Disallow: /

Keep it out of one folder:

User-agent: KovalSEO-SiteAudit
Disallow: /checkout/

Slow it down to one request every ten seconds:

User-agent: KovalSEO-SiteAudit
Crawl-delay: 10

What is saved

We keep what your server sent — the content of the pages, the HTTP facts and the evidence behind each finding — to produce and explain the report. Our privacy policy covers how that data is handled.

Questions or unwanted requests

Write to hello@kovalseo.com with the address of the page, the time of the request and its timezone, and the IP address and User-agent from your server log.
